If you are uncertain of your family’s customs, ask your parents or grandparents. If they are uncertain, find out the custom of your paternal country of origin.
Or create your own tradition that honors the spirit of observance. This is especially important for those of us (aka us converts) without a family of origin which identifies as Jewish.
